Traditional ice fishing

The traditional way of ice fishing or also called “Pimpelfiske” here in Sweden is a way in which you drill a hole and fish in that hole with a small “pimpel” rod. Where you vertically fish towards the bottom with all kinds of lures to increase your chances of catching a nice predatory fish. Usually the easiest and most common species to catch here will be perch. You fish a hole for a certain time and if there is no action you drill a new hole and try there. On a half-day tour we will provide hot drinks, water and soup, if you book a full day then hot drinks, water and a warm lunch are included!

ICE FISHING FOR PIKE

During ice fishing for pike, we go out onto the ice armed with several rods. This is a slightly more “static” way of fishing but because you can fish with several rods per person, it still gives plenty of action. The idea is to drill holes at strategic spots and depths where we place a rod at each hole. Then it is up to the pike to find your bait. Should different rods run better at certain depths or places, for example, then we will adjust our strategy on which we adjust the rods that don’t run or run badly to similar good running places, trying to maximise our success! On a half-day tour we will provide hot drinks, water and soup, if you book a full day then hot drinks, water and a warm lunch are included!

What can you expect during Ice Fishing?

Whether you choose the traditional way of ice fishing or pike fishing – both will focus on an unforgettable Swedish winter experience. Where traditional ice fishing is a more active way with fishing with only one rod per person, with pike fishing you will opt for a more strategic placement of several rods per person to increase your chances of catching a fat Swedish winter pike! There will also be a campfire if you booked a trip with a lunch. And with fresh snowfall everything will look magical and fairytale-like!

What clothes to wear while ice fishing?

Make sure you come onto the ice well prepared, layers are key. Some days with wind stillness and sunshine it will be surprisingly good! But some days wind and without sun will probably make it a bit more challenging to stay warm. It is important, as with any other winter outdoor activity that you put on plenty of layers and a good windproof outer layer in particular. Good warm boots with thick soles are also recommended (we will provide spikes for under your boots so you don’t slip). A scarf or buff that you can put around your neck (and/or to partly cover your face) can also be nice along with a nice warm hat and a pair of good gloves.
